I think this course was quite well-designed and comprehensive enough to give beginning direction to a new foot care nurse. I think being a professional foot care nurse, in the absence of a true national certification to provide adequate regulation, requires a real commitment to ongoing learning and real-world experience to be accountable, safe, and to provide quality foot care. But, this course definitely sets up a solid foundation to start from to achieve all of that. It also provided lots of resources to explore that will continue to help guide my practice. To me, it was very important that the education and training in foot care that I took reflected the current competencies of the CAFCN (mostly because they will likely inform any national certification that eventually happens). I think the best way to practice as a foot care nurse is to practice according to what is provided in this course. I personally know of some foot care nurses who have no apparent knowledge of what is actually required for safe and competent practice, which should be a huge liability concern for them -- taking this course for the theory, and then choosing a clinical provider who subscribes to Foot Canada's curriculum, is the best way to avoid liability and provide safe, thorough, and competent care in my opinion.
